John Baird Honours Nepean Veterans at Stillwater Creek
(OTTAWA) – John Baird, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean presented commemorative plaques to some 100 veterans at Stillwater Creek Retirement Residence on Friday, January 4th as part of the ongoing Celebrating Nepean’s Best program. Baird, a supporter of the Nepean Museum initiative, spoke briefly before handing out the “poppy plaques” as they have affectionately come to be known.
“This ceremony gives us a great opportunity to thank these brave men and women for their sacrifices so many years ago,” said Mr. Baird. “Their acts of bravery and courage have afforded us the great freedoms that we all enjoy today.”
In total, the Nepean Museum program has delivered over 700 poppy plaques to Nepean Veterans since its launch on November 10th, 2007. Nepean Veterans who have not yet received the plaque are invited to contact the Nepean Museum at (613) 723-7936.
