Constituents and local stakeholders attended the Town Hall meeting to discuss how the government's Federal Accountability Act will affect them. The legislation tackles a broad range of issues and will forever change the way business is done in Ottawa.
"Our government's Federal Accountability Act is the first step towards restoring Canadians' trust in government," said Baird. "People who work hard, pay their taxes, and play by the rules want accountability from their government. The phenomenal turnout at tonight's meeting attests to the importance of this bill."
In his role as President of the Treasury Board, Mr. Baird introduced the Act in the House of Commons on April 11th, 2006, making it the first major piece of legislation brought forward by Canada's new government. The legislation has made its way through second reading in the House of Commons, study and amendment by a Legislative Committee, and is expected to come before the House of Commons for third reading next week.
