Baird Lends Support to International Day to Stop Racism
(Nepean) - John Baird, MP (Ottawa West-Nepean) supported the United Nation's International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination with a visit to Grant Alternative School on Richmond Road on March 21. Mr. Baird joined local resident Brodie Osome in speaking to young students about the importance of ending racism and discrimination.
Mr. Baird encouraged students to explore their families' history. "Diversity is part of the richness of Canadian society," said Baird. "As Canadians, we value our different cultures. Each of us should strive to learn more about our neighbours and friends."
The event was organized by the Dominion Institute's Passages to Canada program and sponsored by TD Bank. The Passages to Canada program includes a National Speakers' Bureau of over 450 immigrants and refugees selected to share their experiences with youth and community groups across the country.
