John Baird Sworn In as Member of Parliament

(Ottawa) - John Baird, newly elected Member of Parliament for the riding of Ottawa West-Nepean, was sworn into the House of Commons today by Clerk of the House, Madame Audrey O'Brien at a ceremony on Parliament Hill.

Hundreds of local friends and supporters joined Baird at the ceremony. Local dignitaries, including former House of Commons Speaker and Member of Parliament for Ottawa West, the Honourable Lloyd Francis, provincial cabinet minister and Ottawa West-Nepean MPP Jim Watson and former Mayor of Nepean Mary Pitt were on hand to congratulate Baird.

"I look forward to proudly serving the residents of Ottawa West-Nepean in Prime Minister Stephen Harper's new govenment," said Baird. "Our new team has put forward a solid agenda and work is well underway in fulfilling our campaign commitments on our government's top five priorities."

John Baird was elected as the federal Member of Parliament for the riding of Ottawa West-Nepean on January 23, 2006.
