John Baird Announces New Chair of the National Capital Commission (NCC)
(OTTAWA) — John Baird, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean announced the appointment of Mr. Russell A. Mills, as Chair of the National Capital Commission (NCC).
“The vital mission of the NCC requires the firm guidance of a proven leader - someone who is intimately acquainted with the culture, history and role of the National Capital. Someone who knows the issues facing our city and its great potential,” said Mr. Baird. “We also needed someone who has a tremendous personal integrity and a demonstrated commitment to transparency; I believe we have such a person here.”
The NCC is a Crown corporation that was created by Parliament in 1958 as the steward of federal lands and buildings in the National Capital Region. The NCC mandate is to prepare plans for the development, conservation and improvement of the National Capital Region to reflect its national significance as the seat of the Government of Canada and to organize, sponsor and promote public activities and events in the National Capital Region to enrich the cultural and social fabric of Canada. Mr. Mills will serve as Chair of the 15-member Board of Directors of the NCC.
