John Baird Congratulates Local Resident Appointed to NCC Board

(OTTAWA) – John Baird, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean congratulated former Ottawa Mayor Jacqueline Holzman on her recent appointment to the Board of Directors of the National Capital Commission. Ms. Holzman, a longstanding advocate of NCC reform, will serve a two-year term alongside recently appointed Chair Russell Mills, another advocate of NCC reform.

“It is my pleasure to congratulate Ms. Holzman on her appointment to the Board of Directors at the NCC,” said Baird. “Ms. Holzman joins the board at a time of renewal and reform for the NCC, and I know that she will help make the NCC more efficient and accountable to the people of Ottawa.”

“I look forward to continuing my work in making Ottawa a world class city and making it a second hometown for all Canadians,” said Ms. Holzman. Reflecting on recent initiatives to reform the NCC, Ms. Holzman added, “I am delighted at being given an opportunity to help reform and renew the NCC and I am confident that our board will work towards these goals.”

Jacqueline Holzman entered politics in 1982 after 25 years of voluntary service to the community. She served until 1997, the last six years as Mayor of Ottawa. Ms. Holzman has served as chair of the Ottawa Congress Centre, co-chair for a fundraising campaign for the Ottawa Boys and Girls Club, been awarded an honourary doctorate from the University of Ottawa and been honoured with an YM-YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for Life Time Achievements.
