John Baird, MP Hosts Veterans' Night at Local Legion with Defence Minister
(Ottawa) - Local Veterans and Legion Members enjoyed an intimate and interactive session last night with Minister of National Defence, Gordon O'Connor (Carleton-Mississippi Mills) at Westboro Legion, Branch 480. The evening was hosted by local member of Parliament John Baird (Ottawa West-Nepean), for approximately 100 Veterans, Legion Members and constituents to provide them with an opportunity to hear what Canada's New Government is doing to revitalize and strengthen Canada's military.
"Our government stands firmly behind the excellent work of our proud men and women in uniform," said Mr. Baird. "That is why I am pleased to welcome Minister O'Connor to Ottawa West-Nepean to see first hand how our community has stood up for Canadian values and served our great nation."
"Our Canadian Forces undertake extremely difficult jobs, often under very harsh conditions for the sake of this country," said Minister O'Connor. "To support them in their work, and to care for them when they are done, is a national responsibility that should not be taken lightly."
Minister O'Connor provided the Veterans and Legion members with a thorough update of what the federal government is doing to rebuild Canada's military, including investing in strategic lift aircraft, increasing the number of recruits and providing our troops with the best possible equipment.
