John Baird Joins Prince Edward at National War Memorial Ceremony
(OTTAWA) – John Baird, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West–Nepean, yesterday joined His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex at the National War Memorial in Ottawa to lay a wreath for fallen Canadian soldiers. Mr. Baird, who represented Canada at the ceremony, escorted the Earl of Wessex during the ceremony and afterwards as the two met and chatted with Veterans in attendance.
“This ceremony highlights how important it is for Canadians to remember those who died defending our values and way of life,” said Baird. “Canada’s ongoing contribution to the history of freedom is held in high regard by the international community.”
It is customary for foreign dignitaries visiting Ottawa to lay a wreath at the National War Memorial. Prince Edward, who is visiting Ottawa during its 150th anniversary, took the occasion to demonstrate the appreciation of the Royal Family for the contribution made by Canada during times of war and peacekeeping operations around the world.
