John Baird, MP Hosts Successful First Annual Seniors' Seminar
OTTAWA - Many local seniors attended the first annual John Baird Seniors' Seminar at the Carlington Community and Health Services centre.
John Baird, Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean, discussed the importance of Seniors' contributions to the Ottawa West-Nepean community. "The contributions made by our Seniors cannot be underestimated," said Baird. "Seniors are the cornerstone of our community and many Seniors continue to contribute by helping to raise families, work, volunteer and mentor young people."
Canada's New Government is getting things done for Seniors by increasing the maximum amount of eligible income claimed under the Pension Income Credit, increasing opportunities for community involvement and allowing close friends and extended family members to assist Seniors through the Compassionate Care Employment Insurance Benefit.
The Seminar was an opportunity for local residents to hear presentations from Constable Ray Lamarre of the Ottawa Police Service on the topic of safe driving, and from Service Canada on government programs and services for Seniors. The Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Ottawa Fire Department and the Ontario Securities Commission also participated with information booths.
